Cancer is a condition caused by the uncontrolled division of cells in the body. There are many different cancers, and the most common one that affects women is cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is the cancer of the cervix. It is caused by papillomavirus and is leading cancer in Indian women. Human papillomavirus (HPV) is sexually transmitted. According to cancer research studies, cervical cancer is the second most common health condition worldwide.
Here are some tips to prevent cervical cancer:
PAP Smear test: A regular PAP Smear test every three years is a must for women above 30 years of age. The test will give a clear understanding of how healthy the cervix is.
Quit smoking: Smoking weakens the body’s immunity system which is responsible for fighting diseases. The carcinogens present in tobacco aggravates the effect of HPV in cervical cells. Extensive research shows that women smokers are affected by cervical cancer. The research also shows many women who are highly exposed to passive smoking also are at risk.
Healthy diet: Food is a huge factor in helping oneself have good health. A balanced diet with all nutrients in adequate quantity is required to avoid health problems. For women who are at risk for cervical cancer, a diet which is flavonoids is essential. Flavonoids are chemical compounds found in fruits and vegetables. These chemical compounds are a great source of proteins that fight cancer cells. Some of these fruits and vegetables are apples, asparagus, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, garlic, onions, etc.
Regular workouts: Regular exercise is important for everyone. Workout keeps us active and reduces the risk of severe health conditions. Regular exercises help to increase the immunity that results in the body’s ability to fight unwanted viruses.
HPV vaccine: Although there are many ways to prevent cervical cancer, vaccines are emerging as the most efficient option. HPV vaccine is usually given to girls at the age of 11-12. It can also be given at the age of 13-26 for those who did not get any vaccine before. Ideally, girls should have three doses before their first sexual contact.
Treating Cancers involves both medical and emotional support.
